December 22, 2011 - Something Scarlet Is Born
We realized that our music has continually shifted more towards the rock side of things and away from the acoustic/americana side, and we felt like we were doing
a 'bait and switch' with our audiences. Folks would come thinking they'd be getting a straight-up bluegrass/gospel show and get electric guitars.
So we decided to split ourselves into two bands. The FBB will be for the acoustic, folk, americana, bluegrass and gospel material, with a more traditional
acoustic instrumentation. But for our other side, the plugged-in and rocked-up side, we created
Something Scarlet.
So now people will have an easier time predicting what kind of music to expect, AND we in the band are free to go fully in either direction, too. It's kind of a win-win, we think.

October 27, 2010 - Great Atomic Power EP
Over the next couple of weeks, we'll be focussing on finishing up our second EP project, "Great Atomic Power".
It's taken us way too long to finish this up, life being what it is with twists and turns and other interests and work, but we've not forgotten it.
Once that's done (hopefully by November's end), we'll re-visit the "Wake Up" album and get the ball rolling on that one.
So stay tuned!

April 11, 2010 - The Fair Weather Lunch Series
This summer there will be free live music performed from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm in Jackson Square and Grove Center in Oak Ridge. These free performances are being presented by the
The Oak Ridge Revitalization Effort
as part of their
Fair Weather Lunch Series.
I'm behind them because I believe in local economy, art and pride, and also because they're the folks making a serious push to do something positive with
The Alexander Inn.
As it turns out, I'm going to be helping out as much as possible with organizing, booking, setting up and running sound for these Friday performances.
If you know of anybody who would like to perform at these events, and don't mind doing it pro bono for a good cause, please have them contact me (all my info's at the bottom of the page). And if you would like to get involved with helping me with any of my tasks, that would be greatly appreciated as well. If you simply want to get involved, or find out more, visit the website at
www.RevitalizeOakRidge.org.
Thank you,
Andy

November 9, 2009 - Next stop, "Wake Up"!
Now that it appears the gigging season is over, we'll be focussing on finishing up the new album, "Wake Up". We'd hoped to have it done six months or so ago, but personnel changes and an unusually high (and much appreciated) gigging schedule kinda slowed us down a bit. But it should be pretty smooth sailing for a while, and now that we can focus on the album we should be able to make decent progress quickly.
Stay tuned and stay in touch, my friends!

September 9, 2009 - We Found Ourselves a New Drummer / Percussionist!
The fabulously talented Jonas Mannon has signed on for our little three hour tour. All should be smooth sailing from here on out, so long as the Skipper and Gilligan keep the shenanigans to a minimum!
We're also taking this opportunity to infuse more rock sensibilities into our music. Maybe start getting gigs at Pres Pub and the like. So far it sounds great. We've not lost the gentle touch on numbers that require it, but now we have the added punch that only overdriven tube amps can provide!

July 8, 2009 - We Are Seeking a Drummer, Banjo Player and Lead/Harmony Female Vocalist
We are actively seeking a drummer, banjo player and female lead and harmony vocalist.
The best way to hear what direction we're going currently is to LISTEN to the recordings of our recent performance on WDVX.
That was an acoustic show, but we're looking forward to plugging in and turning up the gain so we can start doing club gigs in addition to the outdoor family-friendly events we get tapped for regularly.
If our music appeals to you, go HERE to find out more about setting up an audition.

June 5, 2009 - CD Project is Finally Under Way
Puppy began laying down the scratch tracks for the upcoming CD this week, and he's totally excited to do this bad boy up right!
The goal here isn't to showcase FBB as a live band, but present us as songwriters, arrangers, interpreters and collaborators. Much more of a studio project than the last CD. We hope to get a number of our musical friends involved as well, to fill out the sonic landscape, so expect a few surprises!
The album will consist primarily of songs we've written, but it'll have a couple of old public domain numbers on it, too.
And we're also very proud to include a couple of songs penned by our friends: Randall Wilkerson of Dark Hollow Band fame, and Peter Parnassa a songsmith from Salem, MA. Thank you very much for allowing us the honor, guys!
Rough demos of many of the songs are on the listen page.

April 8, 2009 - Side Project gets Un-Assimilated, Apparently Resistance isn't Futile...
Although the rock side project and the FBB have a ton of over-lapping members, the direction of the two bands is really quite different.
Having two different faces is good on paper, but is a bit too much like an identity crisis in the execution, so we decided to split them apart again.

March 10, 2009 - Side Project gets Assimilated
The classic rock side project and the FBB had so many over-lapping members that it just seemed a bit odd and counter productive
to maintain as two distinct bands. So we opted to just mush them together.
Instead of two different bands, the FBB now just has two different faces.
We're all old rockers, so it's rather natural that we'd want to do familar rock material for fun.

February 26, 2009 - Classic Rock Side Project makes a demo
The still un-named classic rock
side project
went into Matt Lincoln's
Underground Recording
studio last night and laid down a handful
of tracks for a demo.
It was just a quick and dirty session to give us something to pass around,
but from what we could tell during the playback,
it'll sound pretty darned sweet! Once we get a final mixdown, we'll post the tracks here on the website.
Thank you Matt for providing a smooth and comfortable session, and thank you Dave for getting the ball rolling on this!

January 30, 2009 - Blues/Rock guitarist Shawn Rumbolt joins the band!
We now have onboard our musical train, the fantastic guitar work of Dr. Shawn Rumbolt. Woo! Woo!
In addition to being a chiropratic doctor, Shawn's an extremely nimble fingered guitarist, versatile in blues, rock, jazz
and all those flavors in-between!
We first met Shawn as part of Dave's rock n roll jam troupe, which has now become a (yet-unnamed)
side project for The Frost Bottom Boys.
Dave presented the idea to co-mingle the two groups in order to increase exposure and opportunities for both of them.
Stay tuned for more info about the side project.
We quickly realized what a fine addition Shawn would be to The Frost Bottom Boys,
so we offered him a full-time slot. He accepted, thankfully, and we're now an even better eclectic mix than we already were.
Welcome, Dr. Rock!

August 27, 2008 - Jazz drummer Dave Halstead joins the band!
We've found a jazz percussionist extraordinaire in the form of Mr. David Halstead!
Dave's a freakin' spectacular drummer with a long list of great well-known jazz bands on his resume, including Stan Kenton, Dean Martin, Ella Fitzgerald, and Dizzy Gillespie.
He's completely capable of playing as straight as can be, or crazy enough to impress Sun Ra.
We're extremely pleased that he's decided to give our little mish-mash project a turn around the block,
and we hope we can give him enough room to stretch out that he won't get itchy.
Best of all perhaps, is that he's one of the nicest most professional guys we've met so far in our musical adventure.
Welcome aboard, my brutha!

August 4, 2008 - We're in search of a smallkit drummer / percussionist
Our previous drummer, Shaun Schuetz, got himself a gig with the symphony and needs to focus on that. Good luck, Werewolf of London! Let us know when you're gonna be pounding out some Rachmaninov or Shostakovich!
The ideal candidate would have an ear for subtle poly-rhythms and a firm command of dynamics. Sure, we do bluegrassy stuff, but we've to songs that would work best with a N'arlins shuffle, and stuff that works well with a hard funk beat. Most of us are big fans of hard bop, and Shaun's jazz background proved quite valuable.
We'd love to get someone who's comfortable and happy playing both a kit and also just doing minimalist percussion, hand drums, or maybe even trash cans! We want to push the envelope, so if you're looking for a band who allows for personal expression and new approaches, look no further!
We're a working band and have big hopes of taking this outfit as far as it will go, so professionalism and maturity are needed. Practice commitment is dependent upon abilities, which means that so long as you know your part, the rest of us don't need you at every practice to help us with ours.

June 21, 2008 - We've completed our first EP
We were going to call the album "Late for the Gig", but felt that might portray us as a wee bit less than professional. Since we're based in Oak Ridge, TN, we decided to call it "Atomic City Breakdown" instead.
We're really pleased with results of these nearly all-live tracks. You can order a CD, or download the mp3s from our Store page, so check it out!
